10 top tips for surviving a festival this summer
While the Glastonbury and Latitude festivals may have already passed, there are still plenty of festivals you can hit this summer to take in a variety of musical and artistic acts. The weather isn’t always predictable, so if you’re not a seasoned festival goer then you might want to take a look at our top 10 festival survival items and tips below.
Poncho – A Poncho is a classic festival item, giving you protection from the rain while you watch your favourite acts without having to hold up an umbrella. Keep a couple of these handy in case you lose one, as they are a must-have.
Hand gel – When you’re at a festival there aren’t many opportunities to wash, and you’ll still be eating and drinking as much as you usually do. Take some hand gel and keep yourself bacteria free when touching food or your face.
Ear plugs – If you’re a light sleeper, then ear plugs will help to block out noise from any nearby partying or music when you turn in for the night. This way you can wake up refreshed for the next day of festival acts.
Wellies – You can’t trust the weather, and no festival experience is complete without wellies and mud.
Bin bags – No doubt you’ll be pitching your tent in a set area, so you’ll want to be courteous and keep the area clean. With bin bags in tow you can easily get rid of any and all rubbish throughout your stay.
Sun cream – Should you manage to catch the best of the July and August weather, then standing out in a field for the entire day could be dangerous for your skin. Take sun cream just in case and you’ll be able to enjoy yourself without worrying.
Sleeping bag and mat – For a comfy and cosy sleep while you’re away its worth investing in a quality sleeping bag. To protect against a lumpy or hard surface, take a roll up mat too.
Water – The key to a good festival is making sure you stay well hydrated. You’ll be in the fields for several days so be sure you don’t get caught out in the heat, take bottled water to be sure that you have a safe, clean supply (it can also help with hangovers!).
Toilet roll – There might be plenty of portable toilets around but you needn’t risk a disaster if you take your own toilet roll. Depending on the festival, portable toilets can get a little messy, however, with your own toilet roll you’ll be well prepared.
Cash – Few festivals will have conveniently placed cash machines, so take some money in a money belt so that if you need any extra food or drink you won’t have to beg friends. Having ready cash will also make it easy to buy t-shirts and any other gifts you want to pick up.
