Checklist for holidays abroad

minibus airport transfer

Although the aim of a holiday is to de-stress, if you’re not properly prepared, it could end up doing the reverse. But it doesn’t have to be this way. All you need to do to make your holiday run smoothly is a bit of forward-planning. So, for ease of reference, we’ve compiled a checklist of all the things you might need, helping you save time, money and a bit of headspace.

Foreign currency

A sure-fire way to lose a large sum of money before you’ve even landed on foreign soil, is exchanging currency at the airport; the rates can be incredibly high. So, for the best results, shop around for good rates well in advance. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that you might not have to look further than your local Post Office!

Travel to and from the airport

Let’s face it – airport car parks are very expensive, and who wants to be driving at the crack of dawn? If a comfortable, stress-free journey is what you are looking for, consider hiring a taxi/minibus to the airport. No parking, no driving, no fuss!

Check your luggage allowance

When jetting off on holiday, it can be easy to stuff our luggage bags full of the most obscure items to prevent missing the essentials, but this isn’t always the best idea. It’s important to check your luggage allowance and weigh your bags well in advance, streamlining where necessary, otherwise it could be costly. If you have a further connecting flight with a different airline, it’s worth checking their allowances, too.

Travel insurance

Arguably the most important thing on the list: travel insurance. Providing cover for anything from overseas medical attention to a last-minute holiday cancellation, travel insurance could save you a lot of money if the worst does indeed happen.

Packing

This might seem like one of the easier processes to check-off, however, there always seems to be something missed. Sun cream? Aftersun? Insect repellent? A travel adaptor? These sorts of things could well slip under the radar, so don’t forget to think bigger than your swimwear!

Vaccinations

If you are travelling somewhere particularly exoctic, there’s a chance you may need to have some vaccinations. This is not something you should take lightly, as the consequences could prove far more severe than forgetting a spare towel! With this in mind, it’s worth checking in with your GP to see if you require any boosters.

Passports and tickets

Forgetting either of these two items is the Holy Grail of travelling blunders. In fact, even the thought of it could have many holiday-makers losing sleep. So, to help regulate your blood pressure in the run-up to the flight, make sure your passport and tickets are stored somewhere safe! On top of this, it’s certainly worth checking your passport’s expiry date. If it lands anywhere on or before the trip, it needs renewing!
