Five Must-see Christmas Markets in Yorkshire

Everyone’s guilty of counting down the days before Christmas a little early, but now November is upon is, you have a free licence to get excited about all the activities that Christmas has to offer. Namely: eating, drinking and shopping. Since we tend to enjoy all three of these pastimes in equal measure, Christmas markets are the perfect way to combine the three; gifts, chocolates, beer, decorations – everything you need to feel Christmassy.

In anticipation for these events that will pop up in the coming weeks, the team at Wyatt Coaches are going to list the top five Christmas markets in Yorkshire.

St Nicholas Fair, York, 16 Nov – 22 Dec

York is always pretty at Christmas time; the quaint architecture and rolling hills lend themselves perfectly to the festivities, providing the perfect backdrop for the St Nicholas Fair!

From the 16th November and the Christmas lights switch-on, York is transformed into a medieval Christmas wonderland. There will be rows of Scandinavian style stalls, hand-crafted gifts and plenty of local flavour and tasty treats at York’s famous Shambles Market. What’s more, when you have finished shopping, there’s always the roaring log fire at Thor’s Tipi, the perfect place to warm up with a hot chocolate or some brandy.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt, 11 Nov – 24 Dec

A quintessential German Christmas market, the Leeds Christkindelmarkt is one of the largest and best established of its kind in the UK. Situated in Millennium Square, the market will feature a variety of authentic wooden chalet stalls, cosy log fire retreats and a traditional carousel.

Harrogate Christmas Market, 16 Nov – 19 Dec

Back for its sixth year, the award-winning Harrogate Christmas Market is recognised as one of the best in the UK. Locally produced food and drink span plenty of the 200 beautiful wooden stalls, and once you’re stuffed, you can head over to Santa’s grotto with real reindeer inside. Or, if you fancy a break, you can go and see what Harrogate has to offer in all of its wintry glory!

Sheffield Christmas Market, 16 Nov – 22 Dec

Starting life as a handful of wooden cabins and now featuring over 50, the Sheffield Christmas Market is definitely worth checking out. Whilst the stalls are great, what really sets this market apart is Santa’s Sleigh Bar and traditional German sausage grill – the perfect place for adults to get a little merry.

Malton Christmas Food Market, North Yorkshire, 10 Dec

Bit of a foodie? Look no further than Malton’s Christmas Food Market. Packed with mouth-watering mince pie stalls, brilliant gift ideas and live chef demos, this is certainly not one to miss. You’ll have to be prepared though, it’s only on for one day!
