How to Plan a Cheap Vacation

We all need a holiday from time to time, but nowadays we all have to tighten our belts perhaps a little more than we used to. That doesn’t mean, however, that you have to go without a holiday. In the second of this month’s articles, we’ll be showing you how to plan a cheap vacation – after all, it is possible for you to unwind, relax and take in the sights without breaking the bank!

Create a Budget

Although a large portion of your holiday’s costs will be incurred during the planning and booking phases primarily, your costs could run away from you when you get to your destination if you don’t budget yourself responsibly.

Firstly, you should think about what the maximum amount of money you can spend is. Budgetary experts recommend you should spend about 8% of your income on recreation, which includes holidays. Allocate a certain amount, whatever you can afford, of this proportion to your holiday.

Then, calculate the sum of all major expenses, such as flights, coach hire, lodgings and kennel fees, and subtract it from your total budgeted holiday amount. The remaining number is the amount of money you’ll have to spend every day. Go crazy, but don’t go over this daily budget!

Finding Low Cost Air Travel

One of the best ways to ensure your holiday is a cheap one is to find the cheapest tickets available. This means knowing how to comb through flights available online. Price comparison sites may seem like the easiest way to find cheap tickets, but surprisingly you may find cheaper tickets by looking at providers directly.

Also, remember to delete your cookies before looking up flights at a later date – some sites may hike up the prices if you’ve looked at a flight too many times!

Look for Bundle Packages

If you’re really looking to save, search the web for amazing package deals. Bundling together your flights, accommodation and even car rentals can save you immense amounts of money. Search the web well in advance of your holiday – search it often and search it widely for the best deals around. Expedia and Priceline are two great sites to check out.

Why Not Book a Hostel?

Most people seem to have their mind made up that they’ll be staying in a hotel on their trip, but without flexibility on this front you could end up forking out a lot more than is necessary. Hostels, on the other hand, are the sensible option for the budget-conscious holidayer. If you book a private room, a hostel is as good as a regular hotel, if not better because of the social aspect of sharing a kitchen!

Save on Airport Costs – Hire a Minibus!

The holiday should start when you leave the house with suitcase in tow, not once you get to the hotel room! The stress of having to drive to the airport yourself and, perhaps more importantly, home again after a long, tiring trip isn’t what holidays are all about. Nor are airport parking costs.

Instead, you should hire a minibus to ferry you to and from the airport. All travel worries will be sorted in one fell swoop and you may even save money over travelling yourself if you book in advance!
