days out Barnsley

In England, you don’t have to look too hard to find a nice place to visit on a summer’s day. Each region has its own unique character, and each town or city offers plenty of attractions. Museums, halls, art galleries and parks – they’re all just waiting to be found!

So, in this article Wyatt Coaches is going to shine a light on a destination that you might not have considered: Barnsley. Whether you are from Barnsley and you want to find something new to try, or you are further afield and looking for a great day out, here is what Barnsley has to offer!

Cannon Hall

If you’re looking for a trip down memory lane, or you simply want to go somewhere beautiful, look no further than Cannon Hall. Cannon Hall is a stunning Georgian manor set in 70 acres of scenic parkland and gardens, promising the perfect day out for you and your family.

You can start by wandering around the museum, taking in all the traditional paintings (including an extremely rare De Morgan collection), metalwork, ceramics and furniture displayed around the house. If it’s a lovely day, you can take a stroll through the grounds and find a nice picnic spot somewhere amongst the gardens. Also, it’s an excellent place to take children; the acres of grassland will keep them entertained for hours!

Worsbrough Mill

Continuing in a similar vein, why not check out Worsbrough Mill? With a selection of gorgeous traditional buildings – including a 17th Century water powered mill – Worsbrough Mill is the perfect destination for any lover of history. There are lots of picturesque walks, a beautiful reservoir teeming with wildlife and a quaint little cafe and gift shop. A perfect little day out.

The Cooper Gallery

If art is your thing, then perhaps the Cooper Gallery is the place for you. Situated in the heart of Barnsley, the Cooper Gallery offers contemporary exhibitions featuring work by international, national and local artists. On top of this, there is an entire exhibition dedicated to Picasso, featuring 17 large linocut prints.

Lowedges Festival

If you don’t mind going somewhere a little further afield, Lowedges Festival in Greenhill Park is a great bet. There’s loads of things to see: a dog show arena, a farmers market, a football event with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, an arts and crafts tent, a classic car show – and lots of great music!

Tribfest Music Festival

Continuing on with the festival theme, Tribfest Festival is just around the corner, too. Situated just outside of Barnsley, Tribfest is a music festival dedicated to tribute bands, with over 45 booked in 2016 and over 20 of those playing on the main stage. Tribfest is an excellent, affordable weekend away and a great place to hear some new music.
